Books and registers
The KWPN offers the following four registration options:
- The Foal Book (vb)
- Studbook (stb)
- Register A
- Register B
For KWPN foals, each is assigned a breeding direction and recorded in the Foal Book, Register A, or Register B, according to its respective breeding direction. Mature horses, depending on the criteria they meet, are recorded in the Studbook, Register A, or Register B.
In principle, a sire’s breeding direction dictates the breeding direction of his offspring. However, procedures for the harness horse and Gelder horse breeding directions differ from those of dressage horses and jumpers. This is because the KWPN has traditionally imposed specific blood percentage requirements on the registration of harness horses and Gelder horses.
The KWPN registration schedule (can be found in Dutch here) indicates the book or register in which a horse may be recorded. Those recorded in the Foal Book may be accepted into the Studbook without having to meet additional requirements. Those recorded in Register A may participate in the Studbook Inspection. Those recorded in Register B may not participate in KWPN Inspections, but can compete in the Blom Cup, Pavo Cup and championships for young eventers.
KWPN recognized studbooks
Since January 1, 2018, all (warmblood) studbooks that are members of the WBFSH, are recognized by the KWPN, with the exception of: Asociación Nacional De Criadores De Caballos de Pura Raza Española (ANCCE), Associação Brasileira De Criadores do Cavalo Puro Sangue Lusitano (ABPSL) and Associacão Portuguesa De Criadores do Cavalo Puro Sangue Lusitano (APSL).
