New Pleasure VDL wins competition, Sambucci de Muze takes day prize
Two stallions from the VDL Stud led the way in the Z/ZZ class of the Blom Stallion Competition. New Pleasure VDL triumphed for the second time in the final ranking.
Throughout the competition, three VDL stallions put up a strong fight, with the impressive trio of New Pleasure VDL, Sambucci de Muze, and Night Life VDL leading the standings in that order.
Intense competition
New Pleasure VDL defended his title after convincingly winning the M class of the stallion competition last year under Hessel Hoekstra. The For Pleasure son (out of Lady-A ter Putte by Diamant de Semilly, bred by the De Maertelaere family / Stal Van de Zuidakker from Bassevelde) won this season in IJsselmuiden and Groningen, and jumped faultlessly in the final, making it look easy. The winner of the first competition in Kronenberg was unlucky today; Night Life VDL (Erco van 't Roosakker out of Ialba VDL elite IBOP-spr PROK by Arezzo VDL) showed some sensitivity in his fetlock during the warm-up, and his owners decided not to start him. Fortunately, the incredibly cooperative VDL Sambucci de Muze (Hunter’s Scendro out of Malissa de Muze by Vigo d'Arsouilles, bred/owned by Joris De Brabander) kept the VDL celebration going. Under Luke Hill, this talented chestnut stallion won the day prize and finished second in the final standings. New Pleasure VDL, who had an unfortunate rail in the jump-off, remained the overall winner. Another strong performance came from the consistently high-performing and very competitive No Mercy (Cape Coral RBF Z out of Saartje keur sport-spr by Now Or Never M, bred/owned by Hans Vrijvogel from Den Bosch), ridden by Tom Martens. With two clean rounds, they placed second in the day's competition and third in the final ranking.
