A ‘déjà vu’ for the Moerings family: after Bas Moerings previously won the Stallion Competition twice with Ipsthar, his son Ovinio took over the reins today. The combination came into the final with the best chances and sealed the victory in the Blom Stallion Competition Jumping 1.20m.

Bas Moerings and Ovinio (Ipsthar out of Kovinia sport-spr by Vigo d’Arsouilles) had already won the stallion competition in IJsselmuiden and Groningen, placing them at the top of the standings. Today, they won the day prize in Den Bosch, securing the overall competition victory. Ovinio comes from their own breeding program, so the Moerings family also received a breeder’s premium from the Friends of KWPN.

Own Breeding Program
The ten-horse jump-off guaranteed an exciting battle for the final win. “Ovinio really resembles his father, and it’s so exciting to experience this again,” said Bas. “Both his mother and father were bred by us, and with Ovinio, we’ve combined two different maternal lines. It’s wonderful to experiment with this, and Ovinio is exactly what we hoped for when we made this combination. He’s very careful but also very down-to-earth and intelligent.”

Top Three
As the last competitor, Jarno van Erp rode Oslo (Côte de Zelande Delta Mossel Z out of Kelvira elite IBOP-spr D-OC by Chaman, bred by M. van Heel from Wijchen) in a fast jump-off, but just missed out on the winner’s time. He took second place both in the day prize and in the overall standings. Diamant de Semilly son On The Spot (out of Kathelien W keur IBOP-spr by Cornet Obolensky) received third place under Willem Greve. This stallion, bred by Jan Greve, is also a success from their own breeding program, just like the winner.
