SC Ermelo: Obession Taonga takes lead in class M
Eight horses competed in the M class during the Anemone Horse Trucks Stallion Competition Dressage in Ermelo. The entire top three scored above 80 points, with the standout performer Obsession Taonga leading with an impressive 88.4 points.
The jury for this M class consisted of Floor Dröge, Emmelie Scholtens, and Bettine van Harselaar. Under Lara van Nek, stallion Obsession Taonga (Vitalis out of Jatilinda elite pref IBOP-dres sport-dres PROK by All At Once, bred by Stal 104 BV from Wijdewormer) secured victory with two 8.5s, two 9s, and a 9.2. Jury spokesperson Bettine van Harselaar commented: “This horse has a very functional walk with excellent rhythm and ample scope. The trot also presents a very appealing picture, with good activity and alignment between front and hind legs. The horse demonstrates great adjustability and ease, switching effortlessly even in the canter. While there was some tension at times, it is an elegant horse with a beautiful silhouette. The stallion is highly trainable and shows significant potential.”
Four times a 9
With an impressive four scores of 9, Secret Lover (Secret out of Oh La La by Fürstenball, bred by B. Zumbruch from Wangerland) and Charlotte Fry secured second place. “The walk shows excellent rhythm with plenty of scope, maintaining this rhythm even in transitions. The trot demonstrates good balance, impulsion, and self-carriage. The canter began beautifully, showcasing high quality, adjustability, and balance. However, a significant disruption in the right lead canter caused tension, which lingered slightly. Still, this is an impressive horse with great potential.” The pair earned a total of 87.8 points.
Charming presentation
Third place went to Ozzy TN, a son of Ibiza (out of Marabella by For Romance, bred by C. Ortmann Ellerbrock from Friesoythe) ridden by Kim Alting. Scoring 81.2 points, including an 8.3 for the trot, the stallion delivered a commendable performance. “The walk is rhythmical and maintains the correct rhythm immediately after transitions. This consistent rhythm is also evident in the trot, where the horse moves with good balance and ease of adjustment. The canter shows good rhythm and scope as well. The horse could be a bit quicker to respond to the aids, but overall, it presents a harmonious and sympathetic picture with smooth transitions.”
