Silver for six-year-olds KWPN team in WBFSH Championship
In the third championship in Valkenswaard, the KWPN team earned a well-deserved silver medal, thanks in part to a flawless round by Tom Martens and the stallion No Mercy.
For the third time in a row, the gold went to Selle Francais, while the KWPN took silver. The selection committee chose three participants from a strong team to represent the KWPN in today’s final.
Strong team
The first final of the day took place under great public interest. The six-year-olds faced a well-designed 1.35m course. For team KWPN, Tom Martens had a strong start with a clear round on Hans Vrijvogel’s homebred KWPN-approved stallion No Mercy (Cape Coral RBF Z out of Saartje, keur sport-jumping by Now Or Never M). Immediately afterward, teammates Riëlke Roeland with Nashville HX (Cape Coral RBF Z out of Joelina, star sport-jumping by Entertainer, bred by Stal Hendrix from Kessel), the second offspring of this KWPN-recognized stallion on the team, and Cedric Van Leerberghe with Nabucho (Chacoon Blue out of Barones den Haan, sport-jumping by Vancouver, bred by Caroline de Munck from Zuiddorpe) delivered a good performance, finishing with just one unlucky fault. Then, it was a waiting game to see how the other studbooks would perform. The team secured second place. “It’s a great competition to ride in, and No Mercy is getting better and better. He gives me the feeling he could easily jump three more courses. His dedication is incredible, and I’m happy to have contributed to this silver medal,” said Tom Martens.
