KWPN team starts strong in Valkenswaard
On the first day of the WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy, the KWPN team got off to a good start.
During the first two days, the combinations compete individually, with the best three results counting for the team. The selection committee will determine which combinations can participate in the finals this Sunday.
Tied for the lead
In the five-year-olds, the KWPN is currently tied for first place. Among them are Jules de Bruijn with Oberon (Kallmar VDL out of Jefrieda elite IBOP-spr D-OC by Arezzo VDL, breeders H. Schut and F.B. Oldenburger from Grootegast), Rob Heijligers with the KWPN-approved stallion On and On MB (Baltic VDL out of Koosje de Roblesse star sport-spr by Harley VDL, f/g Mirjam Bierings from Westerhoven), and Piet Raijmakers Jr. with Van Schijndel’s Officer (Diarado out of Go-Dette van Rinsma State PROK by Cardento, breeder W. ter Maat from Burgum), all of whom jumped convincingly clear rounds. The six-year-olds also had an excellent start, and in this age class, the KWPN is currently in third place. The best three KWPN competitors all jumped clear rounds and were awarded prizes, with Nabucho (Chacoon Blue out of Barones den Haan sport-spr by Vancouver, breeder Caroline de Munck from Zuiddorpe) delivering that performance in the sixth fastest time, making him the best KWPN horse.
Eight-year-olds
The KWPN is also in third place in the eight-year-olds after the first day, thanks in part to a good ride from Maikel van der Vleuten with Lalique sport-spr (Berlin out of Unique prest by Palm S, breeders Stal Van der Vleuten and Stoeterij Duysel’s Hof). They finished third in this 1.40m two-phase event. Johan-Sebastian Gulliksen also made it to the individual prize winners with Lolita ES star sport-spr (Mosito van het Hellehof out of Halita ES pref by Tornesch, breeder Egbert Schep) thanks to a fast clear round.
Victory
In the 1.40m for approved stallions aged nine and older, the victory today went to the KWPN-approved stallion Key West (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve out of Zanory T keur prest by Phin Phin, breeder Roelof Bril from Westendorp), who was also part of the KWPN team in Valkenswaard last year under Ronnie Jones. The KWPN team riders Jaloubet K VDL (Baloubet du Rouet out of Krista elite sport-spr pref prest PROK by Polydor, breeder Kees Klaver from Schoorl) under Thea Jelcic and Jesther (Cardento out of Vesther keur sport-spr prest by Guidam, breeders Jan and Geert Moerings from Oud-Gastel/Roosendaal) under Bas Moerings also remained convincingly faultless in this two-phase course. The seven-year-olds will compete for the first time tomorrow.
