There was top-level sport in the thrilling jump-off of the World Championship final for seven-year-olds. David Simpson jumped to fourth place with his future star, Mambo Nr 5 B.

With this result, the Irish rider just missed the podium with Mambo Nr 5 B (by Napels out of Coco Chanel B by Quidam de Revel), bred by W. Breukink from Bronkhorst. Although this was a bit disappointing for the ambitious David Simpson, he is confident that the best is yet to come for his horse. “Mambo has an incredible amount of talent, and I’m sure he will be jumping 5* Grand Prixs in the future. It’s just up to me to further improve his dressage skills, which will make him even faster in everything. But he’s only seven years old, so we have all the time in the world!” The gold went to HHS Mercedes (by Can Ya Makan) ridden by Michael Pender, followed by the silver for Remco van den Uilenbos (by Nixon van ’t Meulenhof) ridden by Mathieu Bourdeau’Hui, and the bronze for BP Royalty (by Comme Il Faut) ridden by Michael Duffy.

Lots of potential
Out of the forty combinations, seven made it to the jump-off. Just missing the cut was the Aganix du Seigneur son Mistique (out of Ietoma by Cardento, breeder Stoeterij Duysel’s Hof) ridden by Guido Franchi. The winners of the first round of the World Championship showed excellent form throughout the week but incurred a small fault in this 1.45m class, which placed them eleventh in a good time.
