The first World Championship in Lanaken turned out fantastic for KWPN, as Dominator Z's daughter Orange de Baugy, bred by Leneke Geertzema, won the prestigious title.

With twenty out of the 54 combinations advancing to the jump-off, it was by no means a given that Niamh McEvoy would win with Orange de Baugy. However, after their round, it seemed certain that they would claim the title. Their incredibly fast round, in which the Irish rider took no risks, appeared unbeatable, and that proved to be the case.

Brilliant mare
Niamh McEvoy was over two seconds faster than the competition, and thus, Orange de Baugy (Dominator Z out of Adine ster sport-spr PROK D-OC by Barbarian, breeder Leneke Geertzema) could be crowned World Champion. “She is such a special horse; I’ve only been riding her for three weeks, and she immediately gave me a phenomenal feeling. She’s so light-footed, careful, and has a lot of athletic ability. That’s why I knew we could definitely aim for a top placement in the jump-off. Last year, I won silver with another horse, and now gold: amazing!” said the delighted rider. Unfortunately, the breeder of the newly crowned World Champion couldn’t witness this grand success anymore.

First 1.30m
In sixth place, another very competitive KWPN horse finished: Obbe Junior van de Tjongershoeve (Kannan out of Kimmy Junior elite IBOP-spr D-OC by Indoctro, breeder Jansje Boonstra) ridden by Lithuanian rider Aiste Sulskyte. Not only for the horse but also for the rider, this was her very first 1.30m course. “I started as a groom and only got the chance to develop as a rider two years ago. I backed Obbe myself, and that we were able to perform so well here makes me very happy!” With another fast clear round, Omthago VDE (Comthago VDL out of Justine VDE ster IBOP-spr D-OC by Harley VDL) under Annelies Boer could also be counted among the top ten horses in this championship.

Good results
Under Annelies Boer, the sharp-bred product of Arie van der Ent jumped to a wonderful eighth place. Among others, the KWPN-approved stallion Oslo (Côte de Zélande Delta Mossel Z out of Kelvira elite IBOP-spr D-OC by Chaman, breeder/owner Mark van Heel) showed his qualities under Jarno van Erp. As the first starter in the jump-off, they faced a tough challenge, which they tackled with ease, only encountering a fault at the entry of the double on the diagonal. As a result, they just missed out on a podium finish.
