Red Viper wins World Championship Qualifier for five-year-olds
"It was not a discussion for us that Red Viper should be on top," praised judge Ulrike Nivelle of the KWPN horse Red Viper (by Romanov), who convincingly won the 5-year-old qualifier at the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses today under Bart Veeze with 92%. Ohio (by Kaiman) ridden by Kirsten Brouwer and the KWPN-approved stallion One Million (by Vivaldi) ridden by Robin Heiden also qualified directly for the final.
With a score of 92%, Bart Veeze and Red Viper were clearly ahead, as no other horse scored over 90%. Red Viper recently won the Pavo Cup and was also invited by the stallion selection committee for the second viewing. The Romanov son was bred by C. Kerbert from Enschede out of Zolena elite EPTM-dres sport-dres PROK by Sir Sinclair, and is owned by Reesink Horses.
A Truly Honest Stallion
Veeze has nothing but praise for the striking dark chestnut stallion. "He has a golden character. He is stunning and has three good gaits, but above all, he is extremely honest. That is very nice. He found it quite exciting; this World Championship is set up very differently from the Pavo Cup. This morning it rained, so there were umbrellas everywhere, and he could feel my tension too. But he still keeps doing his best; he always performs for you. It was just a good test, but there were still small things to improve," said Bart, who is looking positively towards the final.
Ohio and One Million
Under Kirsten Brouwer, the KWPN horse Ohio (Kaiman out of Laika ASD stb-ext by Grand Galaxy Win, bred by J.P. Dalsem from Den Hoorn) also directly qualified for the final with 86.80% and a ninth place. The same goes for the KWPN stallion One Million (Vivaldi out of Joyrider elite IBOP-dres PROK by Apache, breeders M.H.J. Gotink from Warnsveld and J.M. van Uytert from Heerewaarden), who scored 85.80% and finished twelfth. The stallion showed three good gaits and remained consistently pleasant to ride.
Other KWPN Horses
On Fire (Indian Rock out of Jewel D.E. PROK by Davino V.O.D., bred by R. van Rooijen from Alphen aan den Rijn) also showed a good performance under the Canadian Beatrice Boucher with a strong hind leg use. With 85.20%, they just missed a spot in the final. The same goes for Oz (Expression out of Firalda elite sport-dres PROK by Oscar, bred by R.J.M. Kauffeld-Jansen from Ede), who, under the Swedish Jessica Lynn Thomas, presented a very good and harmonious test for the Netherlands.
Obsession Taonga (Vitalis out of Jatilinda elite pref IBOP-dres sport-dres PROK by All At Once, bred by Stal 104 BV from Wijdewormer) showed some tension today under Lara van Nek, which mainly affected the submission score. The gaits of this KWPN-approved stallion were rated very highly. Orado (Desperado out of Cazanne elite sport-dres IBOP-dres PROK by Johnson, bred by J.G J. de Louw from Sterksel) also stood out under the American Alice Tarjan. She presented the diligent chestnut, who already finished second in the Prinsenstad dressage as a three-year-old, well. Oberon (Kensington out of Alina elite sport-dres IBOP-dres PROK by Painted Black, breeders Stal Perlee and A.P.E. Goldschmeding from Maartensdijk) also showed a lot of quality under Daria Suchshinkaya, with an 8 for the trot among other things.
