Paris Olympics: Glamourdale, Fame, and Jägerbomb secure bronze for Britain
The top of the team competition was incredibly close at the upper end of the standings. The Danish team, featuring offspring of Vitalis and Blue Hors Zack, was very close to winning gold. The German team narrowly stayed ahead and claimed the gold team medal. Glamourdale, Fame, and Jägerbomb secured team bronze for Great Britain. The Netherlands finished fourth in the medal race.
The KWPN stallion Glamourdale (Lord Leatherdale out of Thuja stb pref prest by Negro, bred by J.W. Rodenburg from Ouderkerk aan den IJssel) scored 79.48% with Charlotte Fry, earning fourth place in this field. The stallion, owned by Gertjan and Anne van Olst, excelled in his canter tour but lost points in the piaffes.
Homebred Jägerbomb
Jägerbomb (Dante Weltino out of Udysee by Jazz, bred by Becky Moody from Penistone, Sheffield) scored 76.48% with his breeder. "My horse is a legend," Moody laughed afterward. "I came here to do my best, and it was truly amazing to do that in front of this audience."
Fame brings his breeder to tears
Fame (Bordeaux out of Bonaventura ster prest sport-dres by Rhodium) scored 76.52% with Carl Hester. His breeder, Maja Gerritsen, couldn’t hold back her tears when she saw Fame, whom she had bred, win a medal. "Fame was a bit more reactive than usual, which didn't make it easier. It helped me immensely that I had seen Becky ride and had her score in the back of my mind. As a team, I think it's a great achievement to win a medal after this week."
Netherlands in fourth place
In the final results of the Grand Prix Special, Hermès (Easy Game out of Bukkie elite pref prest EPTM-dres D-OC by Flemmingh, bred by G. Gijsbers from Loosbroek) was positioned in sixth place with a score of 77.72%. GLOCK’s Toto Jr. (Totilas out of Desperada by Desperados, bred by Schmidt from Naumburg) and Hans Peter Minderhoud scored 72.644%. Emmelie Scholtens and Indian Rock (Apache out of Crisjena keur pref prest IBOP-dres by Vivaldi, bred by J. de Bruijn from Schelluinen) had a disappointing performance with 70.68%.
Hermès to break 80%
"He felt really good. I think I lost some points in the piaffe, which is a shame because he usually scores very high there," Dinja van Liere commented. "The canter transition was a bit messy; he's incredibly quick. It can still be cleaner and tighter for a higher score. He's in top form and feels great. That 80% is definitely going to happen, because it just has to. Tomorrow in the freestyle, we need to step it up a notch. Those lines went well for him, and I'm excited to bring the Spice Girls to this stadium."
Belgians fifth with Flambeau
The Belgian team finished fifth with the performance of Flambeau (Ampère out of Lakarla elite pref prest sport-dres PROK by Zeoliet, bred by Jose van Eijkelenburg from Oisterwijk). With Larissa Pauluis, the gelding scored 69.17%.
71.74% for Gotilas du Feuillard
With a score of 71.74%, Gotilas du Feuillard (Totilas out of Vital Hit S. ster PROK by Ferro, bred by Unlimited Stables from Lunteren) helped the French team finish sixth at their home Olympics. "It's an incredible moment to be here, even though we didn't set a personal record. He still performed very well. It's a challenging arena, especially if you're French," the rider joked.
Buriel K.H. places seventh with Sweden
Buriel K.H. (Osmium out of Ronja K.H. ster pref prest by Krack C, bred by P. Bakker from Oterleek) scored 68.83% with Juliette Ramel. Buriel K.H. had issues with the start of the first piaffe, which the Swedish rider attributed to the horse stepping on his own shoe. "It's unfortunate that this had to happen here. Normally, he piaffes very easily."
Glamouraline
Glamouraline (Johnson out of Anoraline elite IBOP-dres sport-dres PROK by Samba Hit, bred by M.C. Eveleens from Wognum and P. Bleeker from Zuidoostbeemster) scored 66.41% with Finnish rider Joanna Robinson. It was the first time since 1988 that Finland had a team at the Olympics. The Dutch-based rider was able to showcase the mare’s quality, particularly in the first part of the test. "Passage is her strongest point. I still can't believe I'm here at the Olympics. I had no idea what to expect. I'm very grateful for this experience."
