Paris Olympics: Cekatinka's strong cross helps Japan secure historic team bronze
A historic day at the Paris Olympic Games. Although Cekatinka, bred by Jan Greve, did not compete in the show jumping event, her strong cross-country performance contributed to the team bronze for Japan. Janneke Boonzaaijer and Champ de Tailleur showcased their prowess in show jumping and are now in tenth place individually. The team gold went to the British team, followed by France.
Janneke Boonzaaijer and Champ de Tailleur (Quidam de Revel out of Vera stb-ext prest by Oberon du Moulin, breeders A.C. Hoogendoorn and G.W. ten Pas of Winterswijk) were determined to deliver in Paris, and they did. In the first jumping round, the resolute Boonzaaijer delivered a clear round, boosting her individual ranking to tenth place, where we also find the Dutch team.
Everything Falls into Place
"It felt so convincing to me. I kept doing my thing. He performs better when I gallop more. The feeling is incredible, and I’m really looking forward to the second round. I’m doing very well. I had hoped for this, and I know it's possible, but everything has to come together, and it seems to be happening here."
Fedarman B Jumps Like a Superstar
Fedarman B (Eurocommerce Washington out of Paulien B stb prest by Fedor, breeders the Brinkman family of Zutphen), who had a faultless round with Boyd Martin, is in eleventh place. Thanks to this combination, the Americans are in seventh position in the team medal race. “We had a short warm-up because we want to save some energy for the individual competition. He is an amazing jumper and jumped like a superstar today.”
Fan of Dutch Horses
According to his rider Michael Winter, El Mundo (Numero Uno out of Calvaro’s Bria by Calvaro Z), bred by H.G.K.M. Derks, needs little encouragement. “He has always had a lot of energy and is a horse that thinks forward in everything. I buy about seven to ten horses in the Netherlands each year to train and sell. Dutch horses have enough blood, are forward-thinking, and with their easy gallop and fine jumping technique, they are perfect for this work. Our best results come from Dutch horses,” says the Canadian rider.
Hiarado and New Zealand in Eighth Place
Diarado's daughter Hiarado (out of Ubiola stb-ext prest by Ekstein, breeder L.G.M. ten Vergert of Enschede) had too many faults with New Zealand’s Jonelle Price. The New Zealand team is in eighth place in the medal race.
Family-Bred Horse
Family-bred Enjoy (Cartano out of Next Joey stb pref prest by Haarlem) had a jumping fault and a small time penalty with Sanne de Jong. This ends the championship for the rider from Aalsmeer. The fight for individual medals continues this afternoon at 3 p.m. with the top 25 combinations.
