Patchouli Vera Meets Expectations with Pavo Cup Victory
As the mare with the highest IBOP score of 2023, Patchouli Vera entered the Pavo Cup as one of the favorites. The Kjento daughter, under Annemijn Boogaard, once again proved her quality and was crowned champion in the Pavo Cup for four-year-old horses.
Patchouli Vera (Kjento out of Kiara elite IBOP-dres PROK by Bordeaux) won the semi-final and the first part of the final, adding a 9.3 from guest rider Jessica Lynn Thomas. “This mare was a little uncertain with me in the self-carriage, but she did everything she could to do well for me,” Jessica explained. “She is a really fine, elegant horse that is easy to ride and didn't react to anything in this atmosphere.” Patchouli Vera is a true family horse, ridden by Annemijn Boogaard and bred by her mother Florine de Voogd and sister Veerle Boogaard. “We never expected this, it's our first breeding product. And from my own mare, that's very special,” said Veerle. “She is such a sweet horse and always does her best,” added Annemijn. “It's great that we've experienced everything with her ourselves and it's wonderful to have a horse that always wants to work for you.”
Roman Empire
The reserve title went to Roman Empire (Romanov Blue Hors out of Zolena elite EPTM-dres sport-dres PROK by Sir Sinclair, bred by Stal Zogland from Enschede), the full brother of Red Viper, the new champion among the five-year-olds. This stallion, presented by Bart Veeze, received the highest score in this category from the guest rider: a 9.6. “I am quite jealous of Bart,” said Jessica. “This horse is very nice to ride and extremely sensitive in a good way. It feels like I could go into the ring with him tomorrow.”
KWPN Stallions
Taminiau son GLOCK's Pablo Picasso (out of Izzy ster D-OC by Florencio, bred by B.A.W. Mensinck and M.E. Ras from Vierakker) took third place under Rubén Mengual Reig. This KWPN stallion received a 9 from Jessica. “This stallion was a bit hesitant at first, so I might not have shown his best. But he did try hard and wants to do well.” Bart Veeze finished fourth with Pina Colada (Governor out of Cinola M elite pref IBOP-dres D-OC by Dayano, bred by J. Mol from Diepenheim). This stallion was also ridden by Jessica and received a 9.2. “This is a very nice horse to ride, he can already collect well for a four-year-old and responds well to aids.”
Best Gelding
Heiko Klausing and Tie Break (GLOCK’s Toto Jr out of Royal Flanell by Grey Flanell, bred by Van Bockxgrave Horses BV and S.W.M. van der Voort from Hapert) finished fifth. The title of Best Gelding went to Lord Europe son Perfect Ritme (out of D.Ritme elite pref prest sport-dres PROK by Negro, bred by A.G. Op ’t Hoog from Moergestel), presented by José van Haaren.
