Patchouli Vera Continues Success in First Segment of Pavo Cup Final
After winning the semi-final on Thursday, Kjento’s daughter Patchouli Vera once again showed top form during the first part of the Pavo Cup final today. With a score of 88.6 points, the complete mare, ridden by Annemijn Boogaard, took victory in this first segment, putting her in a strong position for the next round this afternoon.
Kirsten Beckers and Patrick Berends judged the first final segment for the four-year-old horses today. The points they awarded will be added to the scores from Thursday’s semi-final to form the interim standings. Patchouli Vera (Kjento out of Kiara elite IBOP-dres PROK by Bordeaux, bred by Florine de Voogd and Veerle Boogaard from ’s-Heerenhoek) was already the mare with the highest IBOP score of the year last year and continues her success in this Pavo Cup final. “This horse has a very correct walk with a beautiful four-beat, she walks diligently with a good hind leg,” Patrick explains. “In the trot, we saw a consistent picture with a lot of cadence. The canter has a nice self-carriage, a lot of adjustability, a lot of looseness, and a lot of power in the hind leg.”
GLOCK’s Pablo Picasso
Just like in the semi-final, GLOCK’s Pablo Picasso (Taminiau out of Izzy ster D-OC by Florencio, bred by B.A.W. Mensinck and M.E. Ras from Vierakker) under Rubén Mengual Reig took second place today. “An appealing horse with a lot of potential for the future. In walk, he could sometimes step a bit more through the body, but this improved during the test. The trot was the highlight today, pure with a lot of power, expression, and elasticity. In the canter, this horse showed a lot of adjustability.”
Shared Third Place
Bart Veeze will saddle two stallions for the second part of the final. Pina Colada (Governor out of Cinola M elite pref IBOP-dres D-OC by Dayano, bred by J. Mol from Diepenheim) and Roman Empire (Romanov Blue Hors out of Zolena elite EPTM-dres sport-dres PROK by Sir Sinclair, bred by Stal Zogland from Enschede) finished with 87 and 85.6 points respectively in the first segment, sharing third place in the interim standings. “The walk is pure, nicely through the body with good self-carriage,” is the comment on Pina Colada. “In trot, the stallion is light-footed, but sometimes he could maintain the carriage a bit more. This stallion canters nicely through the body with good self-carriage.” Stablemate Roman Empire was praised for his friendly presentation. “This stallion has a very correct, pure walk. The trot is correct with a lot of body use and spring. He canters well, though he could develop a bit more power.”
These four horses will return at 4:15 PM this afternoon for the second segment of the Pavo Cup final. They will then be ridden by Jessica Lynn Thomas.
