Unum Convincingly Crowned Champion of Gelder Horse Foals
All breeding directions are present at the National Mare Championships, including the Gelder horse, showcasing the finest representatives across all age groups. Among the foals, Unum took the lead.
Judges Jan Pen, Arie Hamoen, and Marloes van der Velden, who served as chairperson, presided over the event. Marloes provided insights into the foals.
Finale
A total of nine Gelder foals appeared before the jury; two colt foals and two filly foals were invited to the finale. Leading the finale was Unum, a buckskin-colored son of Odin out of the star mare Fendi Liena (by Manno). Marloes commented, "This foal has size and stature, is appealing, and possesses a lot of front. He also demonstrates good leg technique and a fine canter." Breeder and registered party Henny Steenbruggen from Puiflijk bought Unum's mother and bred her to Odin after Edmundo, proving to be a good choice. "I am very pleased with his mother. She has passed on her fine character to Unum. He also presented himself well today, but the jury's judgment is always uncertain. My day can't get any better!"
Second Place
Reserve champion in this category was Unique Kim, a daughter of Odeer out of the keur mare Kimberley (by Koss). Marloes explained, "A well-developed and charming foal that fits very well in the Gelder type. She is tall with a beautiful forehand." She was bred by Jaap and Jan Vonk in Goudriaan.
