Friends of the KWPN in the picture: Rob Mekelenkamp
Media Primair is aimed at providing services to studbooks, companies and foundations within the equestrian sector. The focus is on support in design, content, marketing, commerce, magazines and associated products and services. All this is done under the supervision of Rob Mekelenkamp. He is one of the affiliated Friends of the KWPN!
A token of appreciation for the KWPN breeders and mutual networking, that is what the Friends of the KWPN stand for. But who are affiliated with the Friends of the KWPN and what is their link with the KWPN breeding?
Rob Mekelenkamp is enthusiastic about the ‘Friends of the KWPN’. “From my passion and the resulting Media Primair and Delta Horses companies, I have a link with the KWPN, which has been developing in line with the market in recent years and where the breeder is central. I think this is a very good thing! And with the principle ‘the breeder central’, the reintroduction of the breeder premiums is a great move by the KWPN. In addition, the 'Friends of the KWPN' offers a great platform for maintaining people and business contacts. I therefore wholeheartedly support this initiative.”
Passion for ponies, horses and breeding
“Media Primair was born twenty years ago from my passion for breeding. From home, from both my father's and mother's side, I love horses and ponies. I am a people person who likes to get in touch with everyone who loves horses and ponies, where breeding has a special place. I have bred Shetland ponies for 20 years, including about 15 approved stallions and some Dutch champions.” Rob has not left it with the Shetland ponies. “Twelve years ago I made the switch to breeding and training dressage horses. The apple of my eye is the Grand Prix Horse Gathe's Dowendy (v. Contango) that we also breed with. With this Endy line we continue our breeding through the use of ICSI and ET. Recently a foal by Le Formidable out of Vivaldi's mother was born to us via a surrogate mother. I want to build a solid stock with this filly.”
Big growth
Rob is the CEO of Media Primair and is also a co-owner of Delta Horses, which he founded in 2010, together with several colleagues. Delta Horses has made the studbook database ‘Equis’ accessible to members of various studbooks, from small to large. “The KWPN, the KFPS, the NSPS and the Welsh studbook are all affiliated with us.” In addition to Delta Horses, Media Primair has the same target group. “Media Primair focuses on the provision of services and has clients such as the KFPS, the NSPS and the Welsh. In addition to the services in cross-media concepts and productions, we provide some form of marketing for approximately 50% or more of all equestrian companies in the Netherlands and Belgium and the associations. In recent years we have been able to achieve great growth as a publisher of the online and offline platforms, including the magazines Cap Magazine, the Show Horse, the Mensport and the Hoefslag. With over 1.2 million unique visitors, the Hoefslag has recently been expanded with the online platforms Academie4Horses, Hoefslag Podcast, the events Hoefslag and Mensport Masterclass, Masterclass for Friesian horses and the Mensport event Paard en Koets.”
Focus on online
“With the developments surrounding the coronavirus, we have extra focus on online. This includes extra online content that we make available through various platforms, including Academy4Horses, the Hoefslag Podcast and Hoefslag @home. In addition, this also includes the extra services in the field of online marketing, streaming and online auctions.”
