Results WFFS-tests Gelder and Harness Horse stallions
In May, the KWPN decided to test all active KWPN approved breeding stallions on the Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS). After the earlier publication on the test results of the active riding horse stallions, the results of the examined harness horse and Gelder stallions are now available as well.
26 Harness Horse stallions have been examined by the Dr. Van Haeringen Laboratory for the presence of the WFFS gene. All of these 26 stallions are WFFS-free (no carrier).
19 Gelder stallions were examined for the presence of the WFFS gene. 15 stallions are WFFS-free, four stallions are carriers of the gene, namely Koss, Wilson, Parcival and Vitens.
In the KWPN Database, the results are displayed under the public header 'general' for each stallion that is examined and a summary is available on the WFFS page of the KWPN website. Here you will also find answers to the most frequently asked questions.
From a technical point of view on breeding, stallions that are carriers can still be used for breeding. Their desired genes can still contribute to the KWPN breeding goal. It is not wise to bring two carriers together, because that gives a 25% chance of a foal with the condition WFFS.
