Performance test report
NRW stallion selection in Münster-Handorf, November 2005:Approved by Nordrhein-Westfalen
KWPN Stallion Selection in 's-Hertogenbosch, Feb 4, 2006:
Selected for the performance test. Dressage breeding direction.
Lineage information, 2006 standings:
Lord Leatherdale, who was approved last year by the Westfalen Studbook, brings new blood to Dutch dressage horse breeding. In 2004, his sire Lord Loxley was the uncontested 5-year-old dressage horse champion in Germany, after winning the silver medal one month earlier at the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden. Lord Leatherdale's dam, Fairless-P, is a state premium mare by Ferragamo, who in turn is a grandson of Furioso II, who performed very well in his dressage test and scored a 10 for rideability. Lord Leatherdale's great-grandsire Anmarsch is by the renowned dressage horse sire Angelo xx.
Conformation description, 2006:
Lord Leatherdale is a well-developed stallion with riding horse conformation. He has an attractive front end. The mid-section is dropped. The croup has good length and placement. The front leg is correct. The hind leg is long with little angle. The legs are tight but slightly fine-boned.
Performance test in Ermelo, Mar. 13 - May 19, 2006:
Lord Leatherdale is an honest, willing, and reliable stallion with a good temperament. He is very willing to work and has good trainability. The walk is pure and has more than sufficient scope. The trot has good scope and sufficient carriage. The stallion has a good front leg in the trot but needs to keep his hind leg under him more. The canter has good scope and power with very good leg movement. Lord Leatherdale moves with excellent carriage and balance, and abundant to very abundant elasticity. He has abundant to very abundant talent for dressage and gives his rider a good feeling.
Stable behavior:
Lord Leatherdale is an honest and reliable stallion. He is easy on the ground and quiet in his stall.
Veterinary remarks:
No peculiarities.
Semen inspection:
Expected fertility class: good.
Breeding recommendation, 2006:
Lord Leatherdale can improve front end conformation, temperament, and the canter. He is best bred to mares with a correct hind leg and a strong top-line.
Performance test scores, Ermelo 2006:

Offspring report
Offspring (foals) in 2007:A uniform collection of more than sufficiently developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation. Standing, the body direction is downhill. The head is attractive. The poll has good length. The neck has good length, shape and muscling, but several foals have a neck which comes out deep from the chest. The wither has more than sufficient length and development. The shoulder has good length and placement. The back has good length and muscling but is dropped. The loin has sufficient muscling. The croup has good length, placement, and muscling; in one foal, tail placement is high. The front leg has sufficient length but is toed-out in several foals. The hind leg is long and sometimes sickle-hocked. The legs are more than sufficiently developed and of more than sufficient quality. The walk has good scope. The trot is uphill, with a good front leg. The hind leg bends well and generally steps under the body more than sufficiently. The canter has more than sufficient scope and good balance. The foals use their body well in motion.
Short summary:
A uniform collection of more than sufficiently developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation. The trot is uphill. The foals use their body well in motion. The collection consisted of 20 foals selected by the KWPN and 3 foals selected by the stallion's registered party. Two of the KWPN-selected foals were evaluated standing only due to injury, and two were absent. The absent foals were inspected at their home location. One of the foals is consistent with the findings described in this report; the other foal is not as good as the findings described in this report. The foals selected by the stallion's registered party are consistent with the findings described in this report. The foals were evaluated on grass footing. The quality of the dams was moderate. Foals shown: 21 (+2) of 115 out of mares bred in 2006. The scoring protocol used in this report is as follows: moderate: 5; sufficient: 6; more than sufficient: 7; good: 8.
Breeding recommendation, 2007:
Lord Leatherdale can improve front end conformation, temperament, and front leg use. He is best bred to mares with a strong top-line and a correct hind leg. The breeding recommendation is based on the performance test and the foal inspection.
