Behavior test Ermelo 1981 (short test)

Nurzeus is a friendly, honest stallion that is obedient on the whole. He seemed trained at the start of the test. The first week he showed little enjoyment in working but this did improve. He worked well but acted up on and off. He was sufficiently willing to work. He was in good condition upon arrival and this did not change during the test. He is a slow eater and does not always finish all his food.

During the first week he seemed somewhat nervous in his stall. It seemed that he was fearful that his caretakers were going to punish him. After the first week this fear disappeared and he seemed to trust those around him.

At the start of the test he seemed sensitive in the front. Because of this radiographs were taken but they did not lead to any special criticisms. His movement improved during the test.

Conformation

A stallion with sufficient type, but a little long in the mid section and a little over-built. The stance of the hindleg is good. The breadth and depth are sufficient. The shape of the croup betrays the TB blood. Movement could be even more generous and more from the shoulder.

Offspring report

Offspring 1982 (foals)

The stallion showed well-developed foals with good depth. It was a uniform collection of foals that could be a little more of the riding type but that did show breeding value. The head of the picked foals was sometimes a bit long; that of the selected foals was good. It was also determined that the neck of the picked foals sometimes came from deep in the chest. The wither is nice and long, the shoulder position and length are also good. The back of the picked foals was sometimes long. That of the selected foals was better. The connections are good in both groups. The croup has good length and muscling and sufficient slope, also in the cases where the mare with the foal has flat croup shape. The foreleg is not always correct. In a few cases there was a noticeably good knee in the foreleg. In several cases the hindleg is sickle-hocked. The quality of the legs varies.

The walk ranged from sufficient to good with sufficient scope, but from time to time it could also be rather stiff. The use of the hindleg is good in the trot because it is brought under the body well. The foreleg sometimes stays under the body while in most cases the foreleg does not move out with lift in the knee. The foals are do not cover much ground.

Offspring 1985 (3-yr olds): Nurzeus will remain approved for KWPN breeding on the basis of his 3-year old offspring.



Keur 2002

The stallion committee posthumously awarded the French bred Nurzeus with the keur predicate because of his extraordinary value to the breeding program of jumpers. Nurzeus served the breeding program for years, from Germany as well as from within the KWPN. From both areas comes an impressive row of international sport horses. If we limit ourselves to those within the KWPN then we must name: Midnight Madness, Ennio, Baltimore, Desiree, Some Day, Zippo, Senator Zephyrus, Billy, Hercule Poirot, Zirkana, Dominka, Simply Red, Heatwave and Jew"s Sapphire. Not less important is the role that Nurzeus played as the dam"s sire. Top jumpers of today such as Tinka"s Boy, Macanudo de Niro, Helios en Le Patron all come from daughters of this stallion. His son Marlon currently serves the KWPN breeding program. At this moment there are 151 studbook mares, 75 ster mares, 24 keur mares, 15 preferent mares and 6 prestatie mares registered by Nurzeus.
