Conformation description, Sep. 5 - Nov. 11, 2005:

Johnson is a well-developed, riding-type stallion with good rectangular-shape and uphill conformation. The head is attractive. The neck has good length and shape. The croup has good placement and length. The front leg is correct. The front hooves have moderately developed heels. The hind leg is long and has little angle.



Pedigree information:

Johnson's sire Jazz and grandsire Flemmingh are at the foundation of a successful dressage horse line. Flemmingh sons include the Grand Prix horses Lingh, Krack-C, and Melvin. In recent years, Jazz offspring have dominated the Small Tour. Like his grandsire Sultan, Johnson is a product of Wim van Arkel's renowned Reina-line. Johnson's dam Roxane (s.Flemmingh), a Z2-level dressage horse and keur sport(dres) mare, produced 4 offspring (2 colts, 2 fillies), one of which advanced to the 2nd round viewing. Johnson's granddam Catharin keur preferent produced the Z1-level dressage horse Lorain (s.Goodtimes). Johnson's great-granddam, the ster preferent mare Wareina, is the granddam of several sport horses, including the Z1-level dressage horses Hackfort (s.Cocktail), Jessika (s.Hurricane) and Ruben (s.Lancet); the Z2-level dressage horses Mercedes (s.Hurricane) and Pirouette (s.Concorde); the Small Tour dressage horse Iwan (s.Darwin), and the Z-level show jumper Levereina (s.Lord-Z). Wareina is also the great-granddam of the Z2-level dressage horse Outsider (s.Jazz).



Performance test:

Johnson is an honest and reliable stallion with a very good temperament. He is very willing to work and has good trainability. The walk is pure and has more than sufficient scope. The trot has good scope with a very good front leg. The hind leg bends well but first moves toward the tail and then steps well under the body. The canter is big, uphill, elastic and has good balance. Johnson has abundant to very abundant talent for dressage and gives his rider a very good feeling. He jumps with moderate push and sufficient form. The stallion needs to show more bascule. He appears careful and shows sufficient scope. Johnson demonstrates little talent as a jumper and gives his rider a moderate feeling.



Stable behavior:

Johnson is an honest and reliable stallion. He is easy on the ground and quiet in his stall.



Veterinary remarks:

No peculiarities.



Breeding recommendation:

Johnson can contribute long-lined, uphill conformation and desirable front leg use to dressage horse breeding. He is best bred to mares with good hind leg movement.

Offspring (foals) in 2006:

Johnson showed a uniform collection of well-developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation and remarkable movement. The head is sufficiently attractive but sometimes long. In several foals, the poll should be longer. The neck has sufficient length and good shape but, in several foals, extends deep from the chest. The wither has sufficient length and development. The shoulder has good length and placement. The back has good length and muscling. The loin is well connected. The croup has good placement, length, and muscling. The front leg has more than sufficient length but is toed-out in several foals. The hind leg is long and sickle-hocked. The legs are more than sufficiently developed, but the hock should be cleaner in several instances. The walk has good scope and elasticity. The trot has good scope and elasticity. The foals pick up the canter easily, show excellent balance, and collect well. The foals use their legs well and show good self-carriage.



Short summary: 

A uniform collection of well-developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation and which are appreciated in motion. The foals use their legs well and show abundant elasticity as well as good self-carriage. The collection consisted of 20 foals selected by the KWPN and 4 foals selected by the stallion's registered party. One of the KWPN-selected foals was absent. This foal was inspected at its home location and is consistent with the findings described in this report. One foal, which was injured, was evaluated standing only. With respect to movement, the foals selected by the stallion's registered party are better than the findings described in this report. The foals were presented on sand footing. The quality of the dams was average. Foals shown: 23 (+1) of 253 out of mares bred in 2005. The scoring protocol used is as follows: moderate: 5; sufficient: 6; more than sufficient: 7; good: 8. Breeding recommendation, 2006: Johnson can contribute long-lined, uphill conformation, and desired front leg use to dressage horse breeding. He is best bred to mares with good hind leg movement.
