Performance test report

A well-built, solid stallion with an appealing front but that could be a little more riding type.

He is very playful, somewhat overconfident, friendly and honest. He was not yet saddle broke at the start of the test. During the first half of the test he was rather changeable in his work. Because of this he was longed more and his performance became steadier. He needs a sensitive rider and then is fun to ride. The walk has reach and is regular, it was hurried at first. The trot has much tact and regularity. He has nice posture in the trot. He has a nice, scopey canter. He gets better in jumping the longer he is worked. He has good leg technique and more than sufficient scope. Sometimes he is stiff through the topline. He exerts himself in cross-country and does not have a real country gallop. He is very willing to work and finds it easy. He has much talent for dressage and rather much talent for jumping. He was in good condition upon arrival and got harder and more muscled up during the test. He got more feed than normal.
He was calm in his stall.

Offspring 1992 (foals)
The development of the foals that were shown varied from moderate to sufficient. Those same qualifications were true for the type, which sometimes appears to be a little short-coupled. The head is not expressive and seems a little long. The shape and length of the neck are sufficient and the neck is carried well in movement. The wither is generally short and not very developed. The shoulder does have sufficient length but should have more slope. The back is sometimes a little long but generally there are no remarks on it. The loins are good. The croup is wide and muscled but is not very typey in build, partially because the tail is set too high. Most of the foals appear to be rigid in the foreleg, which has consequences in movement. The hindleg is built well and has good stance. The legs are well developed.
The walk is short and stiff. There is limited freedom of the shoulder in the trot and the foreleg does not move out purposefully and there is no power in the hindleg when it is brought underneath the body. The mares were rather plain.

Watchlist 2000
Fair Play was put on the watchlist on the basis of his 7-year old offspring evaluation. It appears that he has not had a positive influence on the breeding of sport horses. With his jumping index of 92 (46%) and his dressage index of 102 (62%) it does not appear that the stallion improves.
