Conformation description, 1991:

The Stallion Selection Committee inspected the stallion and subsequently drafted the following report. The stallion has insufficient type, most notably evidenced by an underneck; a short, straight shoulder; an insufficient wither; and a dropped back. Despite his intense sport career, the stallion's legs are still clean and tight.

International show jumper under Ludo Philippaerts (BEL). 1988-1991: Competed in 8 Grands Prix, 7 World Cup competitions, 1 European Championship, and 1 World Championship. He won the GP in London in 1988, the World Cup GP in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1989, and the GP in Kapellen in 1989.

Offspring report

Offspring (Belgian) in 1991:

Because of his renowned international show jumping career, this BWP-approved stallion has been approved for semen import for up to 50 mares. The request for approval was submitted by the Hendrix partnership of Baarlo. The stallion is sufficiently healthy to use for breeding based on results of radiographic, larynscopic, and semen studies performed at the Faculty for Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht. The Stallion Selection Committee inspected the stallion's offspring, which are described in the following report. Ten offspring were evaluated, among them two foals and two yearlings. The stallion produces uniform offspring. The neck is good, and in general, is longer than that of the stallion. The shoulder is also longer. The back is often long but not deep. The legs should be of better quality but are sturdy. The hooves are well developed. Abnormalities in the front leg were observed fairly often (toed-in and toed-out). Movement is strong. The stallion is best bred to mares with "blood." The foals out of mares with abundant "blood" have better type.



Offspring (foals) in 1992:

This Belgian stallion and international show jumper has been approved for semen import. Because all his foals sired in the Netherlands were shown, there was no selection. The collection was very varied, making it difficult to note any distinguishing traits. Development is generally sufficient. The foals often have very common type, although several have sufficient type. The head is sometimes ordinary and long, and sometimes sufficiently shaped and attractive. The neck has sufficient shape and length. The wither is sufficiently long and developed. The shoulder is consistently straight. The back is long and sometimes weak. The loin is mostly sufficient but sometimes dropped. The croup has good shape and sufficient length. No comment on the front leg. The hind leg is sometimes long and very angled but sometimes correct. The walk is good. The trot varies greatly: sometimes the front leg is flat, but sometimes the knee-action is sufficient; sometimes the hind leg steps only moderately under the body, but sometimes it steps sufficiently under the body. Foals by the stallion should be presented again next year. Foals shown: 7 out of 8 breedings.



Offspring (foals) in 1993:

Only two foals were presented by this Belgian jumper stallion. These foals differed so much in conformation, movement, and lineage that it was not possible to apply information about them to information about previous collections. According to the committee's assessment, Darco-W meets the minimum requirement for presenting offspring based on the foals shown this year combined with those shown last year and those previously shown in Belgium. Foals shown: 2 out of 8 breedings.



Offspring (3-year-olds), January 1996:

Fewer than 10 offspring by this stallion were presented, but next year, he is not subject to the inspection results of his offspring. He was placed on the list of approved- and recognized stallions because of his value to jumper breeding. He is becoming more convincing as a producer of jumpers.



Offspring (7-year-olds), January 2000:

Based on the evaluation/report on his 7-year-old offspring, Darco-W has been retained for KWPN breeding.



Offspring (11-year-olds), January 2004:

Following the evaluation/report on his 11-year-old offspring, the recognized stallion Darco-W has been definitively approved for KWPN breeding. The committee used the following guideline in the evaluation of the stallion's 11-year-old offspring: to merit approval, the stallion must have a sport index of 120 or greater. Definitive approval is awarded for a sport index greater than 130, with sufficient reliability (75%). In all cases, confirmation heritability is considered in the evaluation. The KWPN-recognized stallion Darco-W has three approved sons: Fedor, Jimtown, and Salamon. On his dam's side, Darco-W does not score exceptionally well with respect to conformation and predicates, but with 152 points, this internationally proven leading sire scores far above average in the Netherlands, claiming a place at the top of the jumping index.
