The breeding of showjumpers

The goal of the KWPN is breeding horses that can perform at the highest level. In order to reach this goal, a horse must have a good conformation, a functional and preferably attractive conformation/appearance, correct movement and an agreeable character.

Breeding goals

  • breeding a competition horse that can perform at Grand Prix level;
  • with a constitution that enables long usefulness;
  • with a character that supports the will to perform as well as being friendly towards people;
  • with functional conformation and a correct movement mechanism that enables good performance;
  • with correct conformation that is preferably attractive, along with refinement, nobility and quality.

Paris Olympics: Team Silver for Ilex; I.Amelusina R 51 Takes Team Bronze

The Dutch team faced a tense moment as they narrowly missed out on the team bronze medal. Despite a flawless round from Kim Emmen and Imagine, the Dutch team missed the bronze by approximately half a second. Representing the United States, Ilex delivered a beautiful clear round, securing the son of Baltic VDL a bronze medal. Meanwhile, competing under the French flag, I.Amelusina R 51 contributed to winning team bronze. The British team took home the gold.

Paris Olympics: McLain Ward: "A great career awaits Ilex"

If there was one pair that made an impression during the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen last Sunday, it was the Baltic VDL son Ilex, ridden by American McLain Ward. While many expected Ward to bring his experienced mare Callas to the Olympics, he chose Ilex, bred by Gijs Maris from Berg en Dal. “Ilex is like a teenager growing into an adult body, not yet realizing how strong he is,” Ward describes the eleven-year-old, large-framed gelding.

Willem Greve and Highway TN N.O.P. make history in ’s Hertogenbosch

Willem Greve made history in the Brabanthallen by becoming the first Dutch rider to win a Grand Prix in the prestigious Rolex Grand Slam. Greve, riding his sharp and fast stallion Highway TN N.O.P. (v.Eldorado van de Zeshoek), was four-hundredths of a second faster at the finish line than the world’s number one, Henrik von Eckermann from Sweden. Harrie Smolders also made a strong attempt to beat the Swede, finishing nearly a second behind and securing a fantastic third place with his crack Uricas van de Kattevennen. “A dream come true to make history here,” said a delighted Greve.
